Become an AbleVoices Peer Photographer! You don’t have to be an expert, just have a desire to learn and connect because we believe that both individuals with and without disabilities learn from each other. A peer photographer may be a model for social interactions while an AbleVoices photographer is able to provide perspective on living with a disability in our community. As a Peer Photographer, not only do you volunteer to support our photographers and gain insight from them, but it is a lot of PHun too! (PHotography fun, of course!)

Peer Photographers are involved in AbleVoices in-person and virtual programming. Currently, our biggest need is for virtual programming. See the frequently asked questions below for more information. If you are interested in volunteering as an AbleVoices Peer Photographer, please submit the form by clicking on the orange button below.

AbleVoices also partners with Special Education and Speech Language Pathology programs at Vanderbilt University and University of Tennessee. Undergraduate and graduate students serve with AbleVoices as Peer Photographers and also gain experience working with individuals with disabilities and applying their classroom learning to real life. If you are a student in a field working with people with disabilities, consider being an AbleVoices Peer Photographer!

“Being a peer photographer has been an amazing experience and I’ve learned a lot of things. My favorite part of the project is when students take photos because their faces light up and you can really see their creativity. The most important thing I’ve learned is that a camera can do extraordinary things beyond taking photographs.”
