- Our Mission -

To amplify the voices of youth and adults with disabilities through the powerful medium of photography,
ultimately fostering more inclusive communities.

We serve individuals living with physical, intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities
as well as mental health conditions.

AbleVoices teaches photography to teens and adults with and without disabilities as a means for self-expression, empowerment, and advocacy. PSE courses are led in schools, community organizations, and through virtual classes. Each project culminates with a gallery exhibit for the public to learn about the photographers, ultimately fostering more inclusive communities.

Photography Clubs

“PHotography, PHriends, and PHun!”

AbleVoices offers year-round, in-person and virtual Photography Club programs to teens and adults with disabilities, age 14 and older. Photographers participating in our in-person club explore scenic locations throughout Middle Tennessee to take photos, learn new skills, and engage with each other and the community. Our photographers learn to upload their images to Flickr, edit, print and submit their photos to the Williamson County Fair as well as other contests, publications, and exhibits.

Photo
Academy

The AbleVoices Photo Academy program provides in-studio and community work-based learning opportunities for our photographers who want to take their photography to the next level. Photo Academy photographers further gain important photography, job, and life skills.

Reflection
and
Connection

AbleVoices Reflection and Connection is a unique program designed to foster meaningful conversations with older adults experiencing dementia. Through a series of weekly, guided photo activities, participants are encouraged to share memories, spark conversations, and connect with others in a supportive environment.

AbleVoices is passionate about creating photographic bodies of work that explore disability-related themes to promote awareness, understanding and inclusion in our communities. Our advocacy projects also provide work-based learning opportunities for AbleVoices Photo Academy photographers.
